Escape to the Chateau Strawbridge family's emotional announcement leaves fans 'gutted'

Escape to the Chateau fans were gutted after the Strawbridge family issued an emotional announcement.

Dick and Angel Strawbridge have won over the hearts of the nation with their popular Channel 4 programme, which documents their efforts to renovate a French chateau. The couple share the luxury home with their two children and celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary last year.

Viewers were thrilled as the ninth season of the show returned in October. The show's Christmas Extravaganza will air tonight and the family took to Facebook to reveal it will be the final episode.

They said: "Today is a special day here for us, apart from being the coldest, it’s the first day in 'as long as we can’t quite remember', that we are relaxing and winding down for Christmas. Arthur & Dorothy broke up from school on Friday and yesterday was dedicated to getting the house stocked for Christmas and being taxis for the children's social lives, but today we go with the flow, and 'smell the roses’.

"We can't quite believe tonight is the finale of Escape to the Chateau! What an incredible journey we have been on these last 8 years. THANK YOU for being a part of it... We will be sitting down to watch as a family, which is another first as the children are normally in bed, and we're sure there won't be a dry eye in the house as we reminisce over our Chateau adventure and re-watch all our family and friends kicking up their heels at our biggest Christmas party yet!

"We hope you enjoy the episode and we will be raising a glass to ‘The end of a chapter, but most certainly not the end of the book' Have a wonderful Christmas, cherish every moment with your loved ones and from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for inviting us into your home.

Fans flooded the comments and said they were devastated as they prepare to wave goodbye to the Strawbridge family.

Nicky said: "So gutted that this is the end. I've watched every episode numerous times taken some of your ideas and created things I never thought possible."

Jeanette added: "I am truly gutted this is the final season EVER. I shall miss my Sunday compulsive viewing. However, I wish you guys all the very best with your continuing business."

Amanda commented, alongside a tearful emoji: "My Sunday evenings are never going to be the same."

Lucy posted: "I'm devastated I'm not going to see you any more. You've kept me going when I've had a day of ironing."

Tara said: "I'm so sad. I've loved your journey."
