Erskine Bridge slip road to close overnight for three weeks

The southbound on-slip to the Erskine Bridge will be closed overnight for three weeks as active travel improvements are made to the route.

The work will be carried out using a full closure of the A898 southbound on-slip road from the northbound A82. The closure will begin at the A82 northbound carriageway and continue until the start of the bridge.

Diverted traffic will continue on the A82 northbound and perform a U-turn at the Dunglass Roundabout before travelling southbound on the A82. From here, vehicles will take the A898 on-slip to the Erskine Bridge where the diversion ends.

Works will take place between 8pm and 6am between Monday (May 23) and June 11, with the footway widened to benefit cyclists and those walking over the bridge.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit, will be carrying out the work.

An Amey spokeswoman said: "This scheme will benefit people who currently use the route each day by widening the existing shared footway and providing a new link to the Erskine Bridge to better align with Transport Scotland’s Cycling by Design guidance.

"The scheme will encourage more people to walk, wheel and cycle for shorter everyday journeys, benefitting health, wellbeing and the climate.

"Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works."
