Boxing fans, here’s some outstanding news — you are inching closer and closer to the megafight that has been requested for years.
On Friday afternoon, Mike Coppinger of ESPN took to Twitter to announce that Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford are on the doorstep of an October 2022 welterweight championship bout.
The news, although unfinalized for now, is significant. Crawford and Spence Jr. are the two best fighters in the weight class and have been for years. But a variety of things from contract negotiations and bad promotions to life-scares outside of the ring, have put the showdown on hold. Now, with Crawford no longer with Bob Arum and Top Rank Promotions, and Spence Jr. clear of his injuries, the potential fight between the two is gaining momentum.

It’s unclear which of the two undefeated champions would be the favorite in the potential fight, which appears to be headed for Las Vegas. But what is clear is this fight has the potential to go down as one of boxing’s greatest.
