Beloved character Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is set to make a chilling return to the big screen in a new film titled Oswald Down the Rabbit Hole. The character, originally created by Disney in the late 1920s, will be portrayed by Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson in this sinister take on a nostalgic fan-favorite.
Directed by Lilton Stewart III and produced by Lucinda Bruce, Oswald Down the Rabbit Hole has a modest budget of $4.5 million and is scheduled to begin filming this Spring for a 2025 release. The plot follows the main character, Art, played by Topher Hall, and his brother Evan, played by Yasha Rayzberg, as they uncover dark secrets about their family lineage and find themselves trapped in a bone-chilling magical prison.
Hudson, who will play Oswald Jebediah Coleman, a brilliant animator cast into a nightmarish world, expressed his excitement for the project, stating, 'I am excited to work with everyone on this production. It’s an incredibly creative and smart project.'
Director Lilton Stewart III had a clear vision for the film and specifically wanted Hudson for the role, citing the star's iconic cinematic legacy. Producer Lucinda Bruce also praised Hudson's casting, calling it a 'dream come true' and expressing her enthusiasm for audiences to see the final product.
Aside from Oswald Down the Rabbit Hole, Hudson is also set to appear in other upcoming projects, including Justine Bateman's film FEEL and the horror movie Mr. Beebee directed by Shannon Shae.
