Erling Haaland signs NINE-year deal to stay at Manchester City

Erling Haaland has signed the largest contract in Premier League history after putting pen to paper on a nine-year deal with Manchester City, despite the looming 130 charges hanging over the club.

With just two years left on his initial deal, Erling Haaland‘s future at the Etihad was coming into question. The Norwegian striker was linked with a move to LaLiga, with Real Madrid long-term admirers of Haaland.

But early on Friday morning, City broke the news that their star striker had signed one of the most lucrative deals in football history to stay at the club until 2034.

Erling Haaland Signs New Manchester City Deal Until 2034

Haaland will now commit his best years to Man City. He’s set to see a boost in his £400,000-a-week wages, making it one of the largest contracts in history.

Reports are also suggesting that the two release clauses in his prior deal have not been included this time round.

“I’m super happy, proud,” Haaland said. “I’m looking forward to staying here for a long time. Now I can fully focus on getting better because I am going to stay here for such a long time. Full focus on performing and getting better to give all of the fans what they want.

“In the end, speaking with the people I spoke with, the hunger and the support that I have been getting for the last couple of years from the board, from the bosses and from Pep (Guardiola), it was an easy decision. I am delighted.”

The 24-year-old has secured back-to-back Golden Boots since arriving at City three years ago. After signing from Dortmund for £51million in 2022, Haaland has scored a mammoth 111 goals in 126 games for City. He has also seen him win a historic Treble for the club in 2023.

Haaland will turn 34 at the end of his new deal. It signals he is here to stay at City no matter the circumstances.

“It is a really welcoming club where you get really taken care of,” Haaland added. “I think that is also really important when you speak with people. You really feel at home here and that is the first amazing thing.

“Second of all, when I spoke to Pep, the best manager in the world, it is also a great thing to speak with him and to train and play under him every single day. To get his input on me and how I can become a better footballer and to develop even more. He is the best. Of course, you are here to win trophies, here to perform, here to be at your best and to deliver at your best. That is what you have to do here because you come here, people expect you to win trophies and that is why you are here.”

Does Haaland’s Contract Show Man City Have Escaped The 130 Charges?

Haaland’s long-term contract extension comes as Manchester City await the outcome of their hearing, after they were charged with 130 Premier League rule breaches.

The Premier League accused the club of breaking their rules and then failing to co-operate with the league’s following investigation.

City, who deny any wrongdoing, were initially hit with 115 charges before another 15 were added later on.

Should the reigning Premier League champions be found guilty, they could face heavy point deductions, huge fines or even relegation. The conclusion of the hearing into the charges, which ended on December 6, is expected to be announced in February.

But with Haaland’s mammoth new deal, there are questions over whether those inside City are confident they will escape punishment of the charges.

However, should City face a transfer ban or in fact relegation, the club will be safe in the knowledge that they have secured one of the most lethal strikers in the world for the long term.
