Erling Haaland will have to a pay an £11.7m tax bill after the Manchester City star became the highest paid player in the Premier League – earning £500,000 per week.
The Norwegian international has agreed a new deal with the Premier League champions after a superb few years in Manchester.
In his debut season, Haaland scored 53 goals in 52 matches across all competitions, broke the Premier League goal-scoring record with 36 and won the illustrious treble.
The following campaign brought another 38 goals and a second consecutive Premier League winners medal – establishing himself as the best striker in the country.
Overall, the 24-year-old has scored 111 goals in 126 appearances (as of 17th January 2024) and it is hard to argue that he should not be the highest paid player in the Premier League.
Before this deal was agreed, Haaland’s Manchester City teammate Kevin de Bruyne was the highest earner with £400,000 a week.
This contract is one of the biggest in sport and Haaland is now the first Premier League player to sign a deal which will last for nine-and-a-half-years.
How Much Is Erling Haaland’s New Deal Worth?
As previously mentioned, the Manchester City star will now earn a reported £500,000 per week and could do so for the next nine or so years.
Prior to this agreement, the former Borussia Dortmund star was earning an estimated £375,000 per week and was the second-highest paid player behind De Bruyne.
This is only from his Manchester City contract and does not include the plethora of sponsors Haaland has, including Nike, Prime Hydration and Dolce & Gabbana.
Earning £500,000 per week means the City star will earn £26m a year, which can be broken down into: £2.17m a month, £71,232 a day, £2,976 an hour, £49.6 a minute and £0.82 per second.
The closest a player has come to earning this amount in the Premier League came in 2021/22, as Cristiano Ronaldo earned a reported £480,000 per week during his second spell at Manchester United.
How Much Tax Will Erling Haaland Have To Pay?
Earning this amount of money seems incredible on face value, but the two-time Premier League Golden Boot winner is set to have a huge tax bill on his hands.
Earning £26m a year means that Haaland will pay around £11.7m a year in tax and £522k in national insurance, which breaks down too £937.9k a month in tax and £43.5k in national insurance.
When looking into this further, Haaland will have to fork out £224k a week in tax and £10k through national insurance – which is £32k in tax and £1.4k in national insurance a day.
This means that Erling Haaland’s weekly tax payments are just short of the average salary in the United Kingdom, which is around £37k.
