Former Everton defender Conor Coady has lifted the lid on an incident which incensed Manchester City's Erling Haaland when the two sides met earlier this season.
The Toffees made the trip to the Etihad Stadium at the end of December for the last game of 2022. The spoils ended up being shared as Everton came from behind to draw the game. Haaland put City ahead in the first half before Demarai Gray fired home a stunning equaliser after the break.
Before City went in front, there was an incident very early on between Haaland and Ben Godfrey which angered the City man after he was left in discomfort following a late challenge. Indeed the Norwegian's goal celebration was directed to Godfrey.
And Coady, who spent the season at Goodison Park on loan from Wolves and played in the game, has provided more detail behind the incident.
He said: “So Ben, about 30 seconds in the game, tackles him and Haaland stayed down. Haaland didn’t know who it was. The next minute, he walks towards me & says ‘Was that you?’ I said ‘No, it was him [pointing at Godfrey]'. He went ‘okay’ and walked off.”
