Erling Haaland pokes fun at Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards after scoring five goals

Erling Haaland aimed a jibe at Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards over the duo's goalscoring records as players after netting five times against RB Leipzig.

Haaland started for Manchester City on Tuesday evening as Pep Guardiola's men smashed the Bundesliga side 7-0. The star summer signing scored five of their goals, including a first-half hat-trick, as City stormed into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Unsurprisingly, the Norwegian was put up to handle the post-match media duties, which included speaking to CBS Sports. Carragher, Richards and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry form the punditry team for the American broadcaster and were in attendance at the Etihad Stadium.

And Haaland could not resist the opportunity to poke fun at the two Englishmen on the panel. Host Jules Breach asked how he was feeling after his spectacular performance, with Haaland immediately poking fun at Carragher and Richards.

"It's an amazing feeling. I think you [Henry] are the only one that maybe knows how to score a lot of goals," he said. That set the panel off into hysterics, with Henry bending over laughing as Carragher and Richards walked away in mock shock.

As the laughter died down, Carragher made light of the situation, saying: "What a start!" Haaland's display on Tuesday took him to 39 goals for the season in all competitions, a new City club record for the most strikes in a single campaign.

He has now scored 194 times in 236 club games across his career, hitting another 21 on the international stage. By comparison, Carragher scored just four goals in 737 appearances for Liverpool and failed to score any for England.

Richards had a slightly better record during his career, scoring 11 times during spells at City, Fiorentina and Aston Villa. He also notched one goal for England, in a Euro 2008 qualifier against Israel.

Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin de Bruyne added to the scoreline against Leipzig, with Haaland taken off just after the hour mark. And the Norwegian insisted that he should have scored at least seven by himself.

"I'll be honest, the feeling is amazing. First of all to win 7-0 and give a 'statement' in this tournament, in the Champions League, which is a tournament I love. To give a statement that we can actually score seven goals," he added to CBS.

"It's not easy to score seven goals so it's an amazing feeling. In the first-half I could have scored more. It's true. I could have had two more goals in the first-half. There was also crosses from Kevin I could have been at.

"There was possibilities but if I stayed on the pitch, no-one knows what would happen. In my mind I always have to look for the next and reach more to stay hungry because if someone scores five goals you have to be happy, but you have to want more of course.

"The club want to win the Champions League, they want to win trophies. They know how to win the Premier League so they didn't bring me to win, so you can read between the lines. I'm here to try to help the club develop even more, to win the Champions League."
