Erling Haaland opens up on 'crazy' Pep Guardiola training and gives Man City fitness update

Erling Haaland says Pep Guardiola is 'a bit crazy' in Manchester City training as he reflected on his first fortnight of pre-season at his new club.

Haaland needed just 12 minutes to score his first goal for City at Lambeau Field, Green Bay, before a lengthy stoppage for a lightning storm threatened to curtail his debut immediately after his strike. The storm passed, though, and Haaland played the first half in Wisconsin as City continue to manage his build-up to fitness.

The 22-year-old was the star attraction post-match in Green Bay, answering questions on his debut and his early impressions of City, describing Guardiola's training sessions as 'crazy' as they return from the US to prepare for the Community Shield next week.

"It’s good. I have to say the first time winning against Bayern [Munich], it was about time after seven losses in a row," Haaland reflected. "To beat Bayern feels good and the quality is good. It was a real test before Liverpool in a week.

"I don’t want to speak too much about Dortmund but Guardiola is a bit crazy and I like that. I cannot tell you too much about this after one week but I’ve been training well and I’m ready for what is next."

After not training before City flew out to the US, Haaland was unused in Houston vs Club America to protect what Guardiola called 'niggles', and he played the reduced 40-minute half in Green Bay. But the striker said he is improving his fitness and said he's feeling good.

He added: "Of course it’s not perfect but it will come, I’m not worried about that. I’m not perfect fitness-wise. These were my first minutes.

"Niggles? What are niggles? You saw that I’m feeling good and ready."
