As the international break gets underway, it's time for your Liverpool FC morning headlines on Tuesday, March 21.

Erling Haaland hands Manchester City injury scare ahead of Liverpool clash

Manchester City striker Erling Halaand faces a race against time to be fit to face Liverpool on April 1 after he was forced to withdraw from the Norway squad.

The Premier League's top goalscorer was due to represent his country in matches against Spain and Georgia this week. But the Norwegian FA have confirmed that the prolific marksmen has now been sent home due to a groin injury.

Liverpool will visit City when the international break draws to a close, to play the first of three huge successive fixtures against Pep Guardiola's side, Chelsea and Arsenal, in a period that could make or break the Reds' hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League.

But the absence of Haaland would undoubtedly be a boost for Jurgen Klopp, as the Reds boss looks to mastermind a league double over the reigning Premier League champions.

City surged into the semi-finals of the FA Cup on Saturday after beating Championship leaders Burnley while Jurgen Klopp's side were given the weekend off. The Reds were due to play Fulham in the league, but the London outfit had FA Cup commitments of their own.

Reigning Premier League champions City are eight points behind Arsenal in the title race, but do have a game in hand while Liverpool are seven points off fourth spot. Liverpool are now not back in action until Saturday, April 1 when they face the daunting task of taking on a City side in much need of a win at the Etihad.

After beating Burnley, Guardiola spoke of his plan before taking on the Reds: “It is what it is. For me, it’s perfect as I will go to Barcelona and Abu Dhabi so it’s perfect. I pray that no-one comes back with an injury. I said to the players – come back fit. You know exactly what you need."
