The latest Erling Haaland contract update indicates the Manchester City superstar will be offered record terms to extend his stay at the Etihad.
Haaland, 24, is in talks with the Cityzens about putting pen to paper on a new bumper deal that would see him bank a basic salary of £500,000 per-week.
That would make Haaland the highest earner in the Premier League. Currently, teammate Kevin De Bruyne holds that honour. The Belgian pockets a basic salary of £400,000 per-week.
Across the continent, only Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong would earn more than Haaland with his proposed new terms. The Dutch international collects a staggering £600,000 per-week at the La Liga giants.
According to reports, the latest round of negotiations have so far been positive from both parties. City are happy to offer the wage increase and Haaland would be happy to commit.
New Erling Haaland Contract Would Make Manchester City Star Highest Paid Premier League Player
Not only will the new Erling Haaland contract make him the Premier League’s highest paid player, he could become the most expensive star of all-time.
That is because Manchester City would likely have to add a £200 million release clause into his new deal. Ideally, the champions would like to banish it altogether but that could cause friction with Haaland.
As it stands, he has a release clause of £150 million on his current contract. Haaland penned that five-year deal when he moved from Borussia Dortmund in 2022. Currently, he pockets £375,000 per-week.
The likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona have often been linked with Haaland. The Spanish giants are actually the front runners to sign the forward in his next club odds market.
With that in mind, Haaland has previously admitted that he would like to play in all of Europe’s top five leagues throughout his career. Therefore, a move to Spain does look likely in the not so distant future.
For now, Real and Barca will have to wait patiently as it looks increasingly likely that Haaland will be extending his stay in Manchester until the end of 2028/29. However, if the release clause is met, a move to La Liga could happen before then.
