Erling Haaland has been brutally mocked for his costly miss in Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.
City, who saw title rivals Arsenal grab a dramatic late win at Aston Villa in the early kick-off, dominated at the City Ground and took the lead shortly before the break through Bernardo Silva. The visitors should have been further ahead in the second half, with Haaland spurning their best chances, including two in one passage of play.
After Keylor Navas had failed to hold a shot, the ball broke to Haaland, whose volley into the ground struck the bar. Fortuitously, the ball came back to the Premier League’s leading scorer inside the six-yard box. A goal looked inevitable, only for Haaland to incredibly smash it over the bar, to the disbelief of the City fans behind the goal.

It proved to be a costly miss as Chris Wood levelled six minutes from time as Forest grabbed an unlikely point. Fans on social media – of Forest and of others clubs – couldn’t help but poke fun at Haaland, who has been almost unstoppable during his first season in English football.
One Forest fan, who remembers Italian flop Andrea Silenzi, quipped on Twitter: “Haaland channelling his inner Silenzi!”
Meanwhile, inside the City Ground, Forest fans chanted, “You’re just a s*** Andy Carroll”.
Another fan reacted to Haaland’s miss by tweeting: “Saw the first one and thought, not too bad. Then saw the second [laughing face emoji].”
Another said: “This has to be miss of the season from Haaland.”
One fan simply asked: “How did Erling Haaland miss this?” Another posted: “Haaland has just missed an absolute sitter. He is human after all.”
