Erling Haaland admits frustration with Man City performance despite two goals vs Leeds

Erling Haaland might have scored two goals, broken a Premier League record, and played in the city of his birth for the first time, but he was still disappointed after Manchester City's win over Leeds.

Haaland scored City's second and third in their 3-1 win over Leeds on Wednesday, having been twice set up by Jack Grealish, taking his tally to an astonishing 25 goals in City colours in just 19 appearances. His second goal was his 20th in the Premier League, reaching the landmark quicker than any other player with 14 appearances.

However, his first thought after City secured the three points was to three other good chances that were saved by Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

Speaking to Amazon Prime, Haaland said: "I said inside, I could have scored five, it's the truth. But we win, that's the most important thing.

"You see Arsenal at the top, we have to hunt them. I'm really happy with the win. Me as a striker, I could have scored more but that's life."

With six weeks to rest and recharge when most of his teammates were at the World Cup, Haaland has returned with three goals in two games in the last week, which he puts down to another frustration - not being able to play in Qatar.

He explained: "I was at home, being a bit mad that I don't play World Cup on my sofa. I recharged my batteries, to watch other people score and win in the World Cup triggers me, motivates me and irritates me. I'm more hungry and more ready than ever."

Speaking to NBC, Haaland added: "To be honest, I get really p****d [at missed chances]. That's the truth. But when I miss, I want to score even more. That's the funny thing -- when I score one, it's such a good feeling I want to score another goal, so it's positive. But, of course it's hard [to miss].

"You remember in Salzburg it was hard for me when I missed chances. Jesse [Marsch] knew all about that. I'm getting old, more mature, and I'm getting a bit better handling these situations, but of course it's hard. You have to think in a way to do something about the next chance because you cannot do anything about the past, you have to think about the next chance."

And Haaland's overall happiness at his night's work in Leeds may have been down to the fact that he was born in the city and has a strong affection for the club. Walking out at Elland Road for the first time, Haaland looked genuinely emotional as 'Marching on Together' was bellowed out, and he muted his celebrations after scoring.

"With my father and mother in the tribune, it's special," Haaland explained to Amazon. "I'm happy today, a really special moment in my career. I had a jersey of Leeds and a City jersey of my father in my bedroom. It's really weird, It's in my craziest fantasy to score at Elland Road for City against Leeds."
