Erik ten Hag told to follow Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp lead at Manchester United

Erik ten Hag has been told to use Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp's methods to improve the fortunes of Manchester United.

United were once again left stunned on Saturday after a heavy defeat away at Brighton and Hove Albion. Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Pascal Gross and Leandro Trossard were all on the scoresheet as the Seagulls ran out comfortable winners at the Amex Stadium.

Defeat for the Reds ensured that United would not be playing Champions League football next season after a disastrous campaign. Despite the lack of top tier European football in 2022/23, Reds fans are looking forward to the arrival of Ten Hag.

The current Ajax man will arrive on a three-year deal in the summer and will be hopeful of making some much-needed changes during pre-season. According to former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy, Ten Hag should look to learn from Guardiola and Klopp should he wish to be successful at the Theatre of Dreams.

Speaking to The Punters Page, he explained: "The hunger and physicality need to come back [at Manchester United], which comes from the fitness and the mentality of the players. That's the manager’s job.

"Pep Guardiola can get players like David Silva doing more running, for example. When David Silva's duels went up, winning the ball back went up too.

"It’s the same with Klopp. He can get the best players at Liverpool to work hard to retrieve the ball like they're young kids trying to impress the manager.

"It’s the manager’s job to start with a great tactical plan and quality players on the pitch to inject the team with a chance of winning."
