Erik ten Hag slams Andy Carroll as Man United discover potential Carabao Cup final opponents

Here are your Manchester United morning headlines on Wednesday, February 1.

Ten Hag hits out at Carroll for Eriksen injury

Erik ten Hag has slammed Reading striker Andy Carroll for his reckless fouling against Manchester United, insisting it has no place in football.

Carroll committed three fouls in 11 minutes in the second-half of United's FA Cup fourth round win over Reading yet he was inexplicably not booked for the first, a scissor tackle on Christian Eriksen. Eriksen left Old Trafford on crutches and has been ruled out for three months with an ankle injury.

Six minutes after Carroll injured Eriksen, forced off in the 57th minute, he was booked for fouling Tyrell Malacia in the 60th minute and received a second caution for ploughing into Casemiro in the 65th minute.

United discover potential League Cup final opponents

Manchester United now know that they will be facing Newcastle United in the final of the Carabao Cup, should they get past Nottingham Forest on Wednesday evening, after they beat Southampton 3-1 on aggregate.

Longstaff added his second 15 minutes later when he converted Miguel Almiron's cross to send the Newcastle fans into raptures. Less than 10 minutes later, Che Adams capitalised on a sloppy Magpies pass to give the Saints a glimmer of hope.
