Erik ten Hag's four transfer priorities to impact Alejandro Garnacho role at Man Utd

Manchester United want to add four new signings this summer as a move for Mason Mount continues to edge closer.

The Red Devils ended their campaign with FA Cup defeat at Wembley as they were undone by their neighbours Manchester City. Erik ten Hag has still been able to deliver a piece of silverware and return to the top four, leading to optimism heading into next season.

Recruitment will be key over the coming months though if United are to close the gap on City, who finished 14 points ahead of them. Mount is currently the most speculated arrival with the midfielder's contract at Chelsea winding down and personal terms agreed with the England star.

The only remaining hurdle is to negotiate a fee with the Blues. Those at Old Trafford believe £50m is sufficient for a player of his quality, given he only has 12 months left on his deal. Beyond that though the Telegraph reports that Ten Hag wants a further three signings.

A new No 9 is the most obvious of those with goalscoring a particular issue for the Red Devils. The United boss also wants another midfielder, to go alongside Mount, whilst a left forward is also on the shopping list despite the emergence of Alejandro Garnacho.

The Argentine has enjoyed a breakout 18 months but has grown in stature this term, penning a new deal at Old Trafford. Garnacho breathed light into the United side when he came on in the cup final at Wembley, albeit he couldn't add to his goal tally despite coming close with a second-half effort.

Garnacho's pathway and development could be hampered should United spend big on a winger with their interest coming as a surprise to some given Ten Hag's apparent trust in the teenager. The Dutchman said recently: "Hopefully, he can progress so quickly he can compete for a starting XI position because that is his next challenge."

Any new-look forward line is set to include a big name at No 9. Harry Kane is heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford, although there is some scepticism about whether or not they will be able to negotiate a deal with Tottenham, who have no interest in selling.

Napoli's Victor Osimhen, who has recently claimed Serie A glory, appears open to a move away from Italy with United potentially making a move, while Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund is on their radar.

Another midfielder would also add more quality in the middle of the park. Casemiro has been a huge success since his arrival from Real Madrid but more depth is needed beyond Christian Eriksen as doubts continue over the futures of Fred and Scott McTominay.
