Erik ten Hag rules three Man Utd stars out of Carabao Cup clash at Nottingham Forest

Erik ten Hag has confirmed Diogo Dalot, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial will not play against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

Manchester United will travel to the City Ground for the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final. Ten Hag's side are the favourites to win the tournament, with Newcastle and Southampton competing in the other last-four clash. The final is on Sunday, February 26.

Ten Hag is also without long-term absentee Donny van de Beek, who suffered a season-ending knee injury earlier this month. The good news for United fans is Axel Tuanzebe is fit again after a lengthy lay-off and Casemiro is available after serving a one-match ban.

"The players who were not available for the Arsenal game - Dalot, Martial, Sancho - are also not available for tomorrow," confirmed Ten Hag on Tuesday afternoon.

Sancho has not played since October after missing out on England's World Cup squad. He has been on an individual training programme and has now returned to first-team training, but he is still building up his fitness and not ready to play a competitive game.

Neither Dalot nor Martial has returned to training after sustaining injuries earlier this month. Dalot suffered a hamstring strain in the 3-0 Carabao Cup quarter-final win against Charlton, while Martial picked up a leg complaint in the 2-1 triumph against Manchester City.

Forest, meanwhile, will be without Taiwo Awoniyi (groin), Cheikhou Kouyate (hamstring), Moussa Niakhate (hamstring), Omar Richards (leg) and Giulian Biancone (knee). Dean Henderson is also unavailable after suffering a thigh injury earlier this month.

Henderson, who joined Forest on loan from United at the start of this season, would not have been allowed to play against his parent club anyway. The England goalkeeper would have needed permission from United to play, which was always unlikely.

"We thought Dean's injury might be a lot longer than it's going to be," said Copper on Tuesday. "He couldn't have played in these semis anyway. Wayne Hennessey played at the weekend and we'll see whether we keep with that or make a change [new signing]."

Former United star Jesse Lingard is expected to be involved on Wednesday after recovering from a hamstring injury. He was back on the bench for Forest's 1-1 draw against Bournemouth last Saturday. Ryan Yates, however, is a doubt due to illness.

"Whether there's a bit of a virus going around or what not, we'll get to the bottom of it," said Cooper when asked about Yates. "If he's available for Wednesday, I don't know yet. We'll see but everyone else was fine from the weekend and we're as we were."

On Lingard, Cooper said: "He wasn’t quite ready at the weekend to start, but definitely ready to be involved... He’s trained since, so he’s definitely up for selection. What we decide to go with, we’ll see, but he’s back in the mix.”
