Erik ten Hag reveals transfer update amid Manchester United links with new midfielder

Erik ten Hag says Manchester United “know what we’re doing” in the transfer market.

United have moved to strengthen their squad this summer through the signings of Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee, with Ten Hag having been backed with a one-year contract extension after winning the FA Cup despite an otherwise difficult Premier League campaign.

Still, the club’s reported pursuit of a new midfielder has stalled in recent weeks.

There were suggestions United had agreed terms with Manuel Ugarte but the Uruguay international remains a Paris Saint-Germain player.

Spain international Martin Zubimendi had been strongly touted as a target too, though Standard Sport understands arch rivals Liverpool are now confident about signing the Real Sociedad star.

Burnley’s Sander Berge is another name linked with a move to Old Trafford, prompting reporters to ask about United’s attempts to strengthen in midfield at Thursday’s pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s Community Shield clash against Manchester City at Wembley.

"I don't go into details, where we are now in recruitment, what we are working on,” replied Ten Hag.

“We know what we are doing, we are in a good position with the squad and just wait, patience and in the right moment we will tell you."

Speaking more broadly about potential transfers during what remains of the summer window, Ten Hag said: "When we have news, we will announce it.

“You've seen the market, it is quite quiet still. We have done business, we have done two deals, it's about timings, the market, the market options, the right moment and the right things."
