Erik ten Hag reveals Christian Eriksen Manchester United chance ahead of Tottenham clash

Christian Eriksen could be set to return to Premier League action against his old club Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night. The Manchester United star was ruled out from the weekend's 0-0 draw with Newcastle through illness.

The Dane had started every Premier League fixture prior to Sunday's stalemate and his absence was there for all to see. United missed his ability to dictate proceedings in midfield and pick the lock of the opposition's defence.

Speaking after the draw with Newcastle, Erik ten Hag admitted that he was not sure if Eriksen would be available to face his old club.

"I can't tell [if he will face Spurs]," said the United manager, as cited by our colleagues at the MEN. "In our team, he really contributes to what we are at this moment. I don't know if he will be available for Wednesday but I hope, of course."

Nevertheless, speaking to the media on Tuesday ahead of the game, ten Hag admitted that he had returned to training and could be in line to play on Wednesday night if he recovers in time. "Christian Eriksen returned in the team training today and we have to see how that works out, how he will recover, if he has the energy tomorrow, so we have to wait for that."

Ten Hag continued by expressing how valuable Eriksen is to United's play: "I know [Eriksen] a long time because everyone knows he developed at Ajax, I knew him from the Netherlands but as a manager, I faced him, I know his capabilities and know his importance for our game."

It'll be interesting to see if the Dutchman does end up fielding the 30-year-old who has widely been labelled United's best midfielder so far this season. A win for the Red Devils will see them move to within four points of their opponents, whilst three points for Tottenham will lead to the Lilywhites climbing into second place.
