Erik ten Hag responds to Neymar transfer links: "When we have news we will tell you"

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has not exactly ruled out a summer swoop for Brazil forward Neymar.

The Red Devils are expected to be busy in the upcoming transfer market, with their attack being high up on their list of priorities. PSG superstar Neymar has been touted as one of those that could be drafted in.

Recent reports have suggested that United have opened talks regarding a deal, with a number of clubs having also been offered the chance to sign him. Ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Chelsea on Thursday, Ten Hag was asked about the possibility of his side signing the Brazilian.

While he remained somewhat tight-lipped about a deal, he did not exactly rule the Red Devils out of the running. Speaking in a press conference, the Dutchman said: "When we have news we will tell you."

News surrounding United’s interest will certainly pique Neymar’s interest. The forward has already expressed his desire to leave PSG after fans protested outside of his home and the club’s Paris headquarters.

He has also previously admitted that he was an admirer of the Red Devils, whilst noting that he would be tempted to one day play in England. Speaking in 2017, he said: “The Premier League is a championship that amazes me.

"I like the playing style and the teams. And who knows, someday, I would like to play at it, yes. I admire Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool - these are the teams that are always there fighting.”

Neymar could be the third PSG forward to swap the Parc des Princes for Old Trafford over the past few seasons. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the first to sign for United ahead of the 2016/17 campaign, whilst he was followed by former teammate Edinson Cavani in 2020.

The former made 53 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 29 goals. The Uruguayan was on the scoresheet on 19 occasions in 59 outings for the club in all competitions.

Elsewhere, Neymar might not be the only big-name forward to quit PSG this summer. Lionel Messi is also on the way out with his contract set to expire next month.

Like Neymar, his future is up in the air. Former club Barcelona remain strongly linked with taking him back to the Camp Nou whilst there were reports of a lucrative contract offer from a Saudi club.

Neymar, now 31, has enjoyed another excellent campaign despite injuries limiting his contributions. He has 18 goals and 17 assists in all competitions this term.
