Erik ten Hag puts his foot down as approach made for highly-rated Man Utd coach

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has been forced to step in to rebuff interest in highly-rated Red Devils coach Eric Ramsay.

The 30-year-old currently represents a key part of the club's coaching team since the Dutchman’s arrival in the summer. He was originally appointed as the Red Devils’ set-piece coach having completed a move from Chelsea in 2021.

His responsibilities have grown since and he is anticipated to have a bright future with the club. Ramsay’s talents have been noticed elsewhere however with clubs in the EFL reportedly taking notice. Barnsley were linked with a move in the past as they attempted to find a new manager in the summer only for Ramsay to stay at Old Trafford.

Interest remains in the coach’s services however with Blackpool the latest to eye a move. The Tangerines sacked former boss Michael Appleton on Wednesday with the side having slipped to 23rd in the Championship after just six wins in 27 league games.

A statement read: “Blackpool Football Club has today relieved Michael Appleton of his duties as Head Coach.

“Assistant Head Coach David Kerslake will also be leaving with Michael. The Club would like to thank Michael and David for their efforts during their time at Bloomfield Road and wish them all the best for the future. The Club hope to be able to announce a new Head Coach in the coming days.”

It appears that they have Ramsay in-mind as they search for the former Blackburn Rovers manager’s replacement but a move might be easier said than done. According to The Athletic, Red Devils’ officials have been made aware of interest in him but have moved to secure his future.

It is suggested that executives at the club have made it clear that they want him to stay with Ramsay himself even confirming that he has no desire to leave. That would thus force Blackpool to look elsewhere as they search for a new manager.

It is suggested that Football League veterans Mark Warburton, Tony Pulis and Mick McCarthy could all be considered as the Tangerines attempt to hold onto their Championship status. They only made their return to the second tier last term after a six year absence - a spell that also saw them fall into League Two.

They finished a relatively comfortable 16th but this season has been far more of a struggle for all at Bloomfield Road. Meanwhile, things have been going extremely well for Ramsay and the rest of Ten Hag’s coaching team this term.

The Red Devils were on a run of nine successive wins under the Dutchman ahead of their trip to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening. It looked as though Bruno Fernandes had secured victory for his side with a well-taken strike in the first-half, only for Michael Olise to equalise with a stunning, late free-kick.
