Erik ten Hag 'plans' another Ajax raid and other Manchester United transfer rumours

Erik ten Hag is reportedly keen on bringing Ajax star Edson Alvarez to Old Trafford.

When Ten Hag was appointed United manager earlier this year, many expected him to raid his former club as he looked to begin a squad rebuild at Old Trafford. And sure enough, United later confirmed the signings of both Lisandro Martinez and Antony.

Both have quickly become fans' favourites, especially Martinez who many believe has completely transformed the United backline. And according to a report by calciomercato, he could soon be joined by one of his former Ajax teammates at Old Trafford.

It's claimed that both United and Chelsea are interested in Mexico international Alvarez. Chelsea had a deadline day bid turned down for the 25-year-old but are still reportedly keen to bring Alvarez to West London.

Elsewhere, United could find themselves in another transfer battle with Chelsea. FootballTransfers are reporting that Todd Boehly wants to sign Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong as back-up for Reece James.

United have been heavily linked with the Dutch full-back who used to play for Manchester City. Diogo Dalot has played nearly every minute of the campaign so far and the Ten Hag's squad is in dire need of a rotation option as Aaron Wan-Bissaka continues his rehabilitation following injury.

Frimpong would likely not be cheap, but if Leverkusen were to drop out of European competition this season by finishing bottom of their Champions League group, it could put United or Chelsea in a stronger negotiating position.
