Erik ten Hag outlines Manchester United plans after making Ajax trip decision

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will not celebrate winning the Eredivisie title with Ajax in Curacao as he prepares to turn his attentions straight to the Old Trafford rebuild. Ten Hag has brought his time at the Amsterdam helm to an end after four-and-a-half successful years.

During that time the Dutchman won three titles and two KNVB Cup trophies. It was confirmed last month that he had been chosen as permanent successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as United start a new era after what has been a dismal campaign at Old Trafford and beyond.

Having seen their title ambitions flattened by November when Solskjaer was sacked, United have also missed out on Champions League qualification under Ralf Rangnick. Meanwhile, their last silverware of any description came in 2017 when Jose Mourinho won a League Cup and Europa League double.

Amid suggestions Ten Hag will attend the Premier League finale against Crystal Palace, the 52-year-old will not jet out to Curacao with his victorious Ajax team. That trip comes as part of sponsorship commitments and concludes in a friendly match against the national team.

It has already been announced that Ajax will replace Ten Hag with Club Brugge manager Alfred Schreuder.

Following a 2-2 draw between Ajax and Vitesse, departing Ten Hag said: "Tomorrow there will be a party with the staff, but I'm not going to Curacao this week. There is a lot of work that still needs to be done [at Man United] and I think that's understandable. This applies to every [new] club.

"A number of things still need to be organised for the staff and also with the squad. We will be working intensively on that from tomorrow."
