Erik ten Hag on Manchester United transfers as ‘deadline day bid for Marcel Sabitzer launched’

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag says deadline day deals are “difficult” as the club enter the transfer market following Christian Eriksen’s injury.

The midfielder “is expected to be out of action for an extended period”, the club say, following a foul by Andy Caroll during the weekend FA Cup victory over Reading.

A statement adds: “While investigations are continuing, initial assessments indicate that Eriksen is likely to be out until late April or early May.”

United, it has been reported, are now looking for a temporary replacement made contact with Atletico, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain over any available options.

A move for Bayern Munich’s Marcel Sabitzer is now being working on, according to reports in Germany.

“On deadline day it’s difficult,” Ten Hag told reporters earlier on Tuesday. “You can’t make policy on such bad injuries but we have players in the midfield department, good players.

“I think you can never fill that [gap] because every player has his own characteristics, another player will always fill in in a different way but it doesn’t mean you have to be less successful.”
