Erik ten Hag names how many players deserve Manchester United Player of the Year award

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes 'four or five' members of his squad could win the club's Player of the Year award this season.

United, who will be aiming to make it back-to-back wins when they travel to Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, have enjoyed an excellent campaign up until now, winning the Carabao Cup and being on course to secure a top four spot. They have also reached next month's FA Cup final against neighbours Manchester City at Wembley.

The Reds were in desperate need of a new leader this time last year and Ten Hag, after being poached from Ajax, has transformed the club's fortunes. He has restored standards, implemented discipline and given the club an identity again.

Though he has been the architect of their resurrection, every member of his squad, at one point or another, has played their part. The likes of Diogo Dalot, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Marcus Rashford, for example, have turned their Reds careers around while Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro have had unquestionable impacts following their arrivals at Old Trafford from Ajax and Real Madrid, respectively, last summer.

And that is why Ten Hag believes the supporters will find it difficult to crown their Player of the Year.

"That's a very difficult question," Ten Hag told United's club website after being asked if anyone has stood out this season. "I think for everyone, it's a difficult answer, because we have many players who have performed outstandingly.

"I can call four or five players who deserve it. It's difficult, I don't want to do it. I leave it to the fans."

United supporters are also being asked to vote for their Goal of the Season. The Reds have scored over 100 goals in all competitions this season, meaning the task of selecting a winner will be difficult.

"I saw a stat which said we are the fifth-most scoring team in Europe, all across Europe, so I don't think it's a problem," Ten Hag added. "We create definitely very good chances and we know also we have to be more clinical, but still we scored a lot of goals. And I think we scored a lot of good team goals.

"I think on Saturday against Wolves, the [goal for] 1-0 was an example. Many players were involved to score that goal. It was about building up from the back.

"A goal that is still in my head is a goal against Arsenal, the goal from Antony. It was such a great team goal where I think almost all the players on the pitch touched it before we scored a goal."
