Erik ten Hag makes feelings clear on Man Utd job after 'positive' interview

Erik ten Hag would be 'super happy' to be appointed Manchester United boss after 'positive talks' with the Premier League club.

The Red Devils interviewed the Ajax manager along with Mauricio Pochettino and Spain boss Luis Enrique, but the Dutchman is the frontrunner for the position. Ten Hag appears to be the easiest candidate to negotiate his release given a clause in his current contract.

United initially believed they would have to pay Ajax just under £5m as compensation for the final 12 months of Ten Hag’s contract but Mirror Football's Simon Mullock revealed that the 52-year-old inserted a get-out clause in the deal he signed a year ago - and that it can be triggered for just €2m (£1.68m).

And the interview with Ten Hag has seemingly gone well on both sides amid reports the Ajax manager would be 'super happy' to be named Ralf Rangnick's successor

Ten Hag was reportedly inquisitive about the size of the budget he would be given to work with and felt positive he would be backed in the market, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Rangnick has also spoken very highly of Ten Hag with United's board, helping with the appointment process as he takes on a consultancy role in the summer. His opinion of Ten Hag was 'absolutely positive'.

The German played down his involvement in United's process of looking for a new manager last week, however, saying: "I don’t know. I know they have spoken to some people but so far we haven’t spoken about the experience and the impressions they have got from those meetings."

During the meeting, Ten Hag was reportedly interested in learning about United's transfer budget in the summer, potential signings and how he would be backed in the upcoming window. Rangnick also refused to give too much away on the recruitment front.

Asked about what United will do in the transfer market, the interim boss added: "It’s always good if you have money available to sign players but the question is do you sign the right players?

"It’s not only a question of money but a question of what kind of idea do you have behind that? What kind of philosophy? And how do you want to play? It’s not only a question of money."

Pochettino is also in the frame, but it will cost PSG around £17m to axe the former Tottenham boss and his staff. But it's claimed United do not see any problem with the French giants in the negotiations for the Argentine and the ball lies firmly in the Red Devils' court.
