Erik ten Hag identifies transfer targets as Manchester United get triple boost

Here are your Manchester United evening headlines for Wednesday, May 17.

Ten Hag plans to sign world-class striker and a midfielder

United manager Erik ten Hag is determined to bring in a world-class striker and a central-midfielder if the club secures Champions League qualification.

United, with three games of the Premier League campaign remaining, are on course to secure a top four finish, requiring just six more points to get the job done. Ten Hag has identified Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane as his top target to strengthen the Reds' attacking options and the club is also keeping tabs on Napoli ace Victor Osimhen.

The Dutchman is also keen to bring in a new central-midfielder. Although Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong and Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund are viewed as the most desirable options, Ten Hag is also considering more attainable options.

United, as reported by the Manchester Evening News back in December, have not ruled out fresh moves for either De Jong or Bellingham, though the latter is widely reported to be closing in on a move to Real Madrid. De Jong's situation will depend on Barcelona's finances.

United get triple injury boost ahead of Cherries trip

Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay have returned to training ahead of United's trip to the Vitality Stadium to face Bournemouth on Saturday.

Rashford was ruled out of last Saturday's 2-0 win over Wolves with a leg problem while McTominay has been sidelined for over a month. The Scotland international has not featured since scoring in the Reds' 2-0 triumph over Everton on April 8.

Raphael Varane also took part in the training session at Carrington, easing any fears that he could be set for another spell on the sidelines. He went off in the latter stages against Wolves as a precaution.

Boss Ten Hag will almost certainly provide further details on the trio, not least Rashford, when he speaks to the media later this week.
