Erik ten Hag holding crunch Cristiano Ronaldo talks as Man Utd squad ready for his exit

Erik ten Hag is set to hold crunch talks with Manchester United's hierarchy following Cristiano Ronaldo's explosive interview in which he slammed his boss and claimed he feels "betrayed" by the club.

The Red Devils manager is to speak with United chief Richard Arnold and football director John Murtough on Monday, with co-owner Joel Glazer on call, to decide what to do with the Portugal international, who has seemingly now burned all bridges at Old Trafford.

The Man United boss and dressing room are said to be disappointed with the manner and timing of Ronaldo's tell-all interview with Piers Morgan, in which he admits he has no respect for his manager and takes aim at everyone from Ralf Rangnick to Wayne Rooney.

According to The Telegraph, a well-placed source reckons some of the Man United squad are now ready to see the back of the 37-year-old as they feel he has become a destabilising presence as the Red Devils start to turn a corner and improve.

The source said there will "not be a tear shed" by these individuals when Ronaldo leaves.

Another source added that the dressing room is making a concerted effort to not allow "Ronaldo's tantrums to distract them", with players now proving they don't need the five-time Ballon d'Or winner to be successful.

Ten Hag was preparing to fly back from London following United's last-gasp win over Fulham on Sunday afternoon when he and the Red Devils squad were informed about the interview.

Manchester United opted against commenting at the time as they didn't want the spotlight to be taken away from the victory at Craven Cottage and shone on Ronaldo.

The interview emerged just as the Premier League is breaking for the World Cup, with Ronaldo heading off to Qatar to join his Portugal teammates.

Ten Hag is not due to speak to the press or make a decision at Man United until after the tournament in late December with domestic football now taking a back seat.

Morgan insisted that the timing of the interview was to enable Ronaldo to get a few things off his chest and to allow the dust to settle before the season resumes.

At which point, the forward is hoping to come to a resolution with United, but it seems apparent to all that Ronaldo will now be leaving the club, perhaps as soon as January.

Ronaldo has become a bit-part player at United this season and was particularly scathing of his boss Ten Hag in the interview, published via The Sun.

"I don't have respect for him because he doesn't show respect for me," Ronaldo said of Ten Hag. "If you don't have respect for me, I'm never gonna have respect for you. If you don't have respect for me, I'm never gonna have respect for you."
