Erik ten Hag hints at Manchester United transfer plans

Erik ten Hag says Manchester United intend to strengthen the depth of the squad in the summer transfer window, as well as enhancing a number of key positions.

United have prioritised a striker amid interest in Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen, while Ten Hag is keen to recruit a young midfielder and has encouraged approaches for Frenkie de Jong or Jude Bellingham.

Representatives of Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong have already held discussions with United, who could also be in the market for a centre-back and a goalkeeper.

Ten Hag has pushed United to be ruthless this summer and the club accept there have to be more outgoings than incomings.

United have provisionally planned to sell Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly, Alex Telles and Anthony Martial. Defenders Axel Tuanzebe and Brandon Williams will be allowed to leave, United will listen to offers for Anthony Elanga, Facundo Pellistri has been pencilled in for a season-long loan while Phil Jones will be released.

Ten Hag is becoming impatient with Jadon Sancho while there is uncertainty over academy graduates Dean Henderson and Scott McTominay, whose resale value is among the highest of the squad players who could move on.

"I think we need to strengthen the team and more positions," Ten Hag explained, "also the depth in the squad. But don’t think about that in this moment. It's not about that.

"So far, we have had a great season so keep going, keep improving, keep progressing and the team is doing so well and I think it is enjoyable to be part of this team. We have to keep it going.

"We have good players, a great team, a great year but it is only success if we keep going."
