Erik ten Hag hints at Jadon Sancho comeback after months on Man Utd sidelines

Jadon Sancho could make his long-awaited Manchester United comeback in their FA Cup tie against Reading.

Sancho has not played for United since October 22nd in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea, after which he was put on a personalised training programme by Erik ten Hag's coaching staff. Ten Hag said Sancho, who missed out on England's World Cup squad, was not physically or mentally ready to train with or play for United.

But the 22-year-old has been back training with the first-team squad for the past week and his three-month exile from competitive action could come to an end this weekend, with Ten Hag revealing the winger is in contention to play at Old Trafford.

“He is training with the team and we will see,” said Ten Hag. “He's improving, he's making steps and we will make the decision after training. He's on the way back, he's making steps, he's back in team training and we have to see when he's ready to go back into games.”

Ten Hag will have a virtually full-strength squad to pick from for the visit of former United midfielder Paul Ince's Championship side Reading, although Diogo Dalot is out and Luke Shaw is doubtful.

“We have always issues, but I think tomorrow we will have a strong selection for this game,” said Ten Hag. “We have a good squad, we can cover things.”

Although United are not expected to sign any more players before Tuesday's transfer deadline, Ten Hag hinted at some potential outgoings. “We have our ideas, for some players we are open for loans, but with some players they are not,” said Ten Hag.

“They have to develop first in our environment, second, we have many games to cover and we need players to cover that. When you play 30 games in 10 days you need a lot of players.”
