Erik ten Hag has an obvious £30million Manchester United transfer decision to make

As much as Manchester United went about it in the wrong way, the decision to let David de Gea leave the club was correct.

Some of the mistakes which were made towards the end of his time at the club were inexcusable and he was evidently unable to play out from the back as was required in Erik ten Hag's set up. MEN Sport understands the Reds are now confident of securing a deal for Andre Onana.

Ten Hag's former Ajax goalkeeper and current Inter Milan star would fit United's new system and would represent a coup. However, the Dutchman's work in goal will not be completed should Onana arrive - he still needs to deal with Dean Henderson.

Clearly, the 26-year-old is desperate for regular first team football but all signs at Old Trafford suggest he will not get it at United. De Gea's exit was his chance to rise but the fact Ten Hag is aiming for Onana shows he does not have faith in Henderson.

What will not have helped either is the Englishman's comments when he joined Nottingham Forest on loan last summer. Henderson openly admitted he avoided Ten Hag to ensure he got a move away from the club and then claimed United had wasted 12 months of his career after 'promises' were not kept.

While he may feel like he has a right to be aggrieved, his outlook could lead to him becoming a distraction if he stays. At this stage, there is no point in sending Henderson out on loan and Forest are keen on signing him permanently in a move would make sense for all parties.

United are understood to want £30m for Henderson and should this offer come in, surely they will accept without hesitation. The Reds need to start getting rid of some of the squad players and moving Henderson on would be a start given the cash boost it would provide.
