Manchester United have been warned about signing PSG star Neymar this summer, amid reports claiming that the Red Devils are in talks to sign the Brazil superstar.
According to L'Equipe, United are one of a number of Premier League clubs who could make a move for the forward this summer. However, Erik ten Hag's side are believed to have made the most progress in the talks, which are reported to be ongoing amid the world record signing's falling out with the French club's fans.
But with the club's impending takeover in progress, major signings may have to wait until the process has been completed, with different visions expected from the prospective owners. Neymar is one of the biggest stars in the world, but would also command huge wages.
His potential arrival at United has the capacity to create a similar dynamic to that of Cristiano Ronaldo. Neymar plays on the left-wing, a role which Marcus Rashford has thrived in this season for United and a repeat of the negative impact Ronaldo on Rashford had could be best avoided for Ten Hag.
That is a view shared by former United striker Louis Saha, who has explained why Neymar might have a negative impact on the wider squad.
"It would be great for the Premier League to have Neymar playing in England because he's such a terrific player," Saha told Betfred. "He's very entertaining to watch but I can understand the question marks that can come from having a player like Neymar at your club.
"I'm just a big fan of the player on the pitch but I don't believe he's lived up to expectations in his last three or four seasons with PSG. I wouldn't want to see him in a Manchester United shirt considering the exaggerated media attention a superstar like him would attract.
"The team structure is so important and still fragile at times. But I certainly believe he'd be a great addition to the Premier League."
Such a transfer would require huge sums of money in order to be pushed through. However, recent comments from Ten Hag suggest that he may be facing uncertainty this summer in the transfer market.
Ten Hag said in a press conference earlier this month: “In football you need funds to construct squads because, at the end of the day, the level of your players decides if you are successful or not. Everyone knows you need funds to construct a squad and high level players cost a lot of money. That’s the situation nowadays in top football.
“I think it’s clear what I want, but it’s not up to me. It’s about others in this club. The family are the owners, they make the decisions. It’s not up to me. I do everything I can and I influence the processes that I’m in charge of.”
