Erik ten Hag happy with Manchester United decision despite Tottenham selling Harry Kane

Erik ten Hag says Manchester United are “really happy” with their striker choice despite Harry Kane leaving Tottenham.

The England captain has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford and was serenaded by United fans last season.

Tottenham were not prepared to sell their leading goalscorer to a Premier League rival and have instead accepted an offer worth more than £86.4m up front from Bayern Munich.

Kane is expected to fly to Germany to undergo a medical ahead of signing a four-year contract with the Bundesliga champions.

United, meanwhile, have signed Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta in a deal worth £72m.

While the Denmark international is not as established as England’s all-time top scorer, ten Hag insists United are excited about his potential.

"First of all, we have chosen a striker and we are really happy with our choice,” said the Dutchman on Friday.

“He’s [Kane] a great striker, clear, a goal maker and apart from that he has all the conditions and abilities what you want to see in a striker. It’s a miss for the Premier League, absolutely.

“We want to challenge and play the best. I don’t think that I have to go into that discussion [about why United didn’t sign Kane] or give an opinion about that.

“We are professional, the processes we do are really careful, we consider a lot of things but finally we make decisions, not overnight, we study every decision behind, we are happy with the squad we have behind us now."
