Erik ten Hag hands Chelsea clear transfer example with Casemiro claim before Man Utd vs Man City

Chelsea have been handed a clear example of the type of transfer business they need to conduct in the next few weeks by rivals Manchester United. The Red Devils have been on their way up this season under new boss Erik ten Hag, despite a difficult start to life in the Premier League.

A run of poor early campaign form has since seen the side embark on a great run of form, sitting fourth in the division with a style of play that is working for the players. With the methods working, the backing is just as important to ensure that the Dutch coach has the players that can fulfill his requirements.

Similar may be needed at Chelsea, who are currently in a difficult run of games themselves after a number of injury concerns through the squad. Questions have been asked of Graham Potter since his arrival, but the new ownership are believed to be backing their choice of manager at this stage.

They will have to continue doing that in the transfer market too, finding players that can carry out their roles similar to that of the strategy for United in the previous summer. One of those signings that went to Old Trafford was Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro, who has plenty of experience and leadership in his locker.

Ten Hag has explained exactly how the Brazilian has had an impact for the club, saying ahead of the Manchester derby with Manchester City: "It is quite obvious. I said it from the beginning. This team needed a 6, control, holding midfielder. He is so important, the cement between the stones, anticipation, pointing players in the right position. In possession, he can speed up the game."

That area is one that the Blues are seriously lacking in, with key players beyond their peak or struggling with injuries in the central ranks. It shows exactly why they made such a big-money move for Enzo Fernandez and have been linked with Moises Caicedo of Brighton.

Chelsea need their own Casemiro and the sooner they could land someone like him for the side, the sooner they can progress towards finding some form again.
