Erik ten Hag gives verdict on Ralf Rangnick Manchester United consultancy role

Erik ten Hag is unlikely to be calling on the advice of his Manchester United predecessor Ralf Rangnick too often, after insisting his consultancy contract was now a matter for club bosses.

Rangnick's spell as interim manager has been a disaster, with just 11 wins in 29 games in charge, but having ended his spell in the dugout he now has a two-year consultancy contract at Old Trafford.

That is likely to focus on recruitment advice from the 63-year-old German, who is set to begin as head coach of Austria now his United commitments have ended.

Clarity has been lacking on his exact role but Rangnick and Ten Hag were in dialogue via WhatsApp last week, when Ten Hag shifted his focus to United after winning a third Eredivisie title with Ajax.

But asked if he felt Rangick's role as a consultant was going to be valuable now his spell as manager had ended, Ten Hag responded: "That is on the club."

Rangnick has been critical of United during his time in charge and recently suggested they needed as many as 10 new players this summer. He is open to meeting with Ten Hag this week and while the 52-year-old will take on views about the club, he plans to draw his own conclusions.

“It’s part of my analysis, I analyse by myself, I observe and I speak with a lot of people, but I will draw my own line.

“I'm still in the process of analysing to set conclusions, I'm looking forward to working with these players. The season before, this squad finished second in the league, so it has potential, so I think if we improve, if we can work with them, we can get more out of them than this season."
