Erik ten Hag gives blunt response when asked about Jadon Sancho return for Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was blunt with his response when he was asked for an update on Jadon Sancho following his team's 2-0 win over Burnley in the Carabao Cup.

Christian Eriksen and Marcus Rashford fired United into the quarter-finals of the League Cup against the Championship league leaders. United's World Cup representatives from the likes of England and Brazil have already returned to the club ahead of the Premier League restart but Sancho remains out of contention despite not being involved in Qatar.

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Sancho was still undertaking his own personal training programme away from Ten Hag's squad. The 22-year-old hasn't featured for United since their draw with Chelsea in October whilst he has not been pictured in first-team training since the end of that month.

During a post-match interview with Sky Sports, Ten Hag was asked if he had an update to provide on Sancho's return, to which he bluntly replied: "No".

The interviewer then asked: "Nothing you can tell us? No timescale?". Again, Ten Hag simply responded: "No."

Meanwhile, Sancho's former England youth coach, the Carlisle manager Paul Simpson, has backed Sancho to return to his best form at United.

He told the Mirror: "I think the big thing that I take out of it is that he's still a young lad. You probably have to say he had a meteoric rise.

"He signed for City when he was young and decided to leave because he couldn't see an opportunity. He then went to Dortmund which surprised a lot of people, but he was absolutely outstanding and did well for England in the development teams. And then he's come back here to United and it just hasn't happened yet.

"But he's still a young lad. Jadon's 22 years old and he's got a loads of football ahead of him. He's not coming towards the end of his career, he's at football club with a group of staff there who will look after him. It then has to come down to Jadon, he's got to do the work to get himself back in the team."
