Erik ten Hag explains Man United's Christian Eriksen move and discusses Lisandro Martinez impact

These are your evening Manchester United headlines for Monday, July 18.

Erik ten Hag's first words on new Manchester United signing Lisandro Martinez

Erik ten Hag has labelled Lisandro Martinez a 'warrior' as he told United fans what they can expect from the newest signing.

After a frustratingly slow start, United's summer transfer window is now truly up and running following the arrivals of Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and now Martinez, for whom the club has agreed a £46.8million, rising to £55.3m, deal with Ajax. Though the transfer remains subject to medical, visa and agreement of personal terms, the versatile defender is expected to put pen to paper on a five-year contract with the option of a further 12 months.

Ten Hag was keen on reinforcing his defensive options and after his initial target, Jurrien Timber, opted to stay at Ajax, attention turned to his teammate Martinez. Ten Hag knows the 24-year-old well from the three successful years they spent together in Amsterdam and he has told fans they can expect an aggressive yet skilful player.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag breaks his silence on Christian Eriksen transfer

United manager Ten Hag has expressed his delight at adding attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen to his squad, backing him to become a real crowd-pleaser at Old Trafford.

Eriksen, 30, was confirmed as United's second signing of the summer transfer window on Friday, joining the club on a free transfer. He has put pen to paper on a three-year deal.

The Denmark international, who suffered a cardiac arrest just over a year ago at Euro 2020, got his career back on track after joining Brentford on a short-term deal in January. He made 11 appearances for the Bees, scoring one goal and grabbing four assists, playing a pivotal role in helping them avoid relegation.
