Erik ten Hag decided on Manchester United's Frenkie de Jong 'substitute' and more transfer rumours

Erik ten Hag has set his sights on American midfielder Taylor Booth as an alternative to Frenkie de Jong, according to reports.

The Manchester United manager is expected to prioritise midfield reinforcements this summer, with interest in the likes of Jude Bellingham and De Jong hinting at the profile of player he wants. Both look set to be out of reach this summer, however, with the former closing in on Real Madrid while the latter is set to stay at Barcelona.

As such, the Reds boss will be forced to look elsewhere and Fichajes reports Ten Hag is keen on FC Utrecht sensation Booth. The 21-year-old has enjoyed a brilliant season in the Netherlands with two goals and three assists from 21 appearances in the Eredivisie.

The American only joined Utrecht last summer after rejecting a contract offer from Bayern Munich in search of regular football. A versatile and technically gifted talent, Booth has earned comparisons with De Jong for his quality in possession and would fit the profile wanted by Ten Hag at a cut-price, with the report suggesting United could land him for as little as €10million.

Elsewhere, TalkSPORT reports that Barcelona are interested in Ruben Neves with Wolves ready to listen to offers around the £45m mark.

Neves has been the subject of interest around Old Trafford for some time, with Ten Hag keen on adding a top class ball-playing midfielder to his ranks over the summer.

The 26-year-old will enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer and would be open to leaving Molineux, with the report adding that he would be keen on a move to Barcelona, but the Catalan club are yet to submit a bid.
