Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes the sale of the club would be a “good thing”, believing “more money” would be available.

The club’s Glazer family ownership last month confirmed they will consider selling, potentially signalling an end to their unpopular tenure.

Hours after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure was confirmed a statement from the United board announced they would explore “all strategic alternatives, including new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactions.”

Supporters have long protested against their American owners, who bought the club for £790m ($1.34bn) in 2005.

During the explosive interview with Piers Morgan that ultimately led to his exit, Ronaldo accused the Glazer family of not caring about United.

“The Glazers, they don’t care about the club. I mean, professional sport, as you know, Manchester [United] is a marketing club,” he said.

Technology giants Apple have been linked with a shock takeover, while Sir Jim Ratcliffe – one of the UK’s richest men – has reportedly previously expressed an interest.

Of the potential takeover, ten Hag said: “There will be more investment possible which is good.

"We spoke about the culture we want, we spoke about objectives, goals and the culture and he confirmed it won’t change.

"It will be even better because more money will become available for this project."
