Eric Donovan has confirmed that he will not be retiring despite being emphatically stopped by Robeisy Ramirez last Saturday.
The 36-year-old took on the biggest fight of his life in Glasgow over the weekend, but was downed twice by the Cuban as he suffered the second loss of his professional career.
The former Olympian looked a class above the Kildare native and had Donovan on the floor during the first and third round of their featherweight contest.
Donovan got back to his feet in the first but soon suffered a bad cut to his left eye, which bled heavily for the remainder of the bout.
Two-time Olympic champion knocked Donovan down again in the third round and the referee stepped in to stop the fight.
But Donovan has vowed to carry on fighting as he looks forward to the next chapter of his career.
"The day you stop loving what you're doing is the day you should stop for good," Donovan told fans on Facebook.
"I love what I'm doing right now. This story is a beautiful one, full of incredible moments, lessons and amazing experiences. I cannot wait for the next chapter.
"Honestly, I get great strength from hearing people's stories, people who get in touch to tell me that by sharing my story it has given them motivation, hope and belief.
"Addiction as a word can be a very negative word. Addiction is what we call the great remover because it removes everything from people's lives, family, friends, jobs, home, pride, sanity, dignity etc.
"But trust me, the greatest achievement of my life is my recovery, being able to live freely and experience all of life's emotions good, bad or indifferent and just live without needing a crutch.
"Wow, that is amazing. I used to think that was impossible, but now I live that life every single day and it's magical."
