Eric Dier has hailed Marcus Edwards ahead of Tottenham's Champions League clash against Sporting CP. Playing their second Group D game on Tuesday evening, the game in Lisbon will see both Dier and Edwards face their former clubs.
With Dier making the switch from Sporting to Tottenham back in 2014, Edwards only joined the Lisbon-based club in January after previously excelling for fellow Portuguese side Vitoria following his Spurs departure in September 2019.
Making a real name for himself in Portugal and now set to come up against his former club, Dier believes that the 23-year-old has all the qualities to make it to Gareth Southgate's England squad.

"Very talented player. He's done extremely well since he arrived and he's someone we'll have to watch out for," said the centre-back in his pre-match press conference. "Leaving the situation at Tottenham and coming to a new country, I think he can be very proud of himself.
"He's very talented and strong and yes it would be great if he could make it to the national team. If he keeps evolving like that I'm sure he could make it to the national team."
Sporting boss Ruben Amorim also lavished praise on Edwards when speaking to the media to preview the European tie. Like Dier, he believes the attacker has all the qualities to make the national squad.
"Marcus is very talented. He's one of the best players in playing between the lines. He took a little while to adapt to the Portuguese lifestyle. He has all of the talent and he can get much better and get to the English national team," said the boss.
"He has to focus more on training and all that is around it. Football is not just the matches, it's everything in between. I trust him a lot. He has a long way to go but I think we did excellent business in signing him."
