Epsom College headteacher and daughter 'shot dead by husband'

A mum was shot dead by her husband, before he killed their daughter and then took his own life, police believe.

It is being reported that the headteacher of Epsom College and her daughter were murdered at the family home in school grounds over the weekend. After shooting Emma Pattison, 45, and 7-year-old Lettie, George Pattison, 39, then turned the gun on himself.

The BBC has reported that George Pattison had a gun licence and Mrs Pattison had made a distressed call to a family member some time late on Saturday evening.

Surrey Police, who are investigating, said by the time they arrived all three were dead. They also confirmed that Pattison's gun licence had been recently updated.

Officers also made a routine phone call to the 39-year-old chartered accountant in the days preceding the killings, because the details of his new home address needed to be checked. However it is understood that the couple was not known to Surrey Police.

The force has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct as matter of routine. Post mortem examinations are expected to take place later this week.

The school, which was named independent school of the year in 2022, released a statement yesterday evening expressing their condolences and asking for privacy.

In a statement, the school said: "It is with the deepest sadness and regret that we have to announce the news of the deaths of Emma Pattison, Head of Epsom College, her daughter Lettie, and her husband George.

"Our thoughts, condolences and sympathies are with their families at this tragic time.

"The College is working with the police in what remains an ongoing investigation.

"We must now focus on the welfare and wellbeing of our pupils and staff, and work to ensure that they receive all the comfort, warmth and support required from the Epsom College community."
