Epic Games is offering classic PC game Deus Ex: Mankind Divided for free this week

Before Cyberpunk 2077, there was Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. The futuristic action game sees you playing as a covert agent who must take down a malevolent secret society hellbent on controlling the world. Relying on an arsenal of sci-fi weapons and your bio-augmented superpowers, you’ll blast, hack, and sneak your way to success.

Sound like your cup of tea? Then you'll be happy to learn that Mankind Divided is currently free on the Epic Games Store. If you’re not already a member, just sign up for free and download the game to play on PC today.

Seeing as it came out in 2016, the game is graphically inferior to most modern blockbusters like Cyberpunk, but it still holds up in its own right. Regarded by many as a stone-cold classic, Mankind Divided was praised for its fleshed-out dystopian world and satisfying side quests.

The game’s main campaign takes a mercifully digestible 16 hours to complete, which is refreshing when compared to the bloated nature of contemporary RPGs. Console players shouldn’t feel too disparaged as Mankind Divided is already available on PS Plus and on Xbox Series systems for £25.

Set after the calamitous events of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the sequel depicts a society where augmented citizens are segregated from regular humans. Amid this so-called “mechanical apartheid”, double agent Adam Jensen sets about exposing the evil machinations of the Illuminati, a shadowy collective that is fuelling division in a power play for world domination.

Alongside Mankind Divided, you can also grab indie game The Bridge for free. Both are available until 3pm on March 21.

Epic Games’ offer comes on the heels of layoffs at Deus Ex developer Eidos. The Montreal-based studio oversaw all but the first two Deux Ex titles in the six-pronged series. As a result of the job cuts, the next instalment in the series was canned by Eidos’ parent Embracer Group, putting the franchise in peril.

If you enjoy Mankind Divided, you can grab the other Deus Ex games for cheap on PC and experience the entire saga.

Epic regularly gives away free games, so it’s worth becoming a store member for that reason alone. Next up, it’s offering Call of the Wild: The Angler and Invincible Presents: Atom Eve – which is also currently available to Amazon Prime subscribers – from March 21 to 28.
