Epic Games is giving away 17 games over Christmas, including Destiny 2

Do you think your partner or parents will give you the highest-value Christmas presents? Epic Games wants a word.

Epic Games has begun its season of Christmas promos, including a whopping 17 free games to be given away across the festive period.

The first of these is available now, Destiny 2’s Legacy Connection. It collates The Witch Queen, Beyond Light and Shadowkeep add-ons for the free-to-play base game. This would have cost you £49.99 from Epic Games before December 13 and also costs that much from Stream right now.

Destiny 2 is a multiplayer shooter, but it also has enough story content to be played happily solo.

This first free offer runs until December 20, after which we expect to see the pace of freebie games pick up.

Last year, Epic Games offered a stack of high-quality games around Christmas. Here’s the list from 2022 to give you a taste of what to expect:

  • December 19: Sable
  • December 20: Them’s Fighting’ Herds
  • December 21: Wolfenstein The New Order
  • December 22: LEGO Builder’s Journey
  • December 23: Fallout/Fallout 2/Fallout Tactics
  • December 24: Encased
  • December 25: Last Light Redux
  • December 26: Death Stranding
  • December 27: F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch
  • December 28: Severed Steel
  • December 29: Mortal Shell

Highlights from the 2021 Epic Games Christmas giveaway included Prey and Control, a real pair of Christmas crackers.

This year, we expect a new game to drop every day from Wednesday, December 20, at 4pm.

The only bad point to note here is Epic Games’s free titles are available for only PC and, in some cases, Mac. There are no Xbox, Switch or PlayStation 5 games available.

Epic Games’s sale voucher is also worth a look. When you claim Destiny 2: Legacy Collection, a 33 per cent voucher will be added to your account. And this can be used on already-discounted titles as long as they cost £11.99 and up.

This means you can pick up Evening Standard Game of the Year contender Alan Wake II for just £21.43, comfortably the best price we’ve seen to date.

Other notable deals include Assassin’s Creed Mirage for £21.09 and Hogarts Legacy for £20.09. Epic Games is playing hardball during the holidays.

You’ll also get 10 per cent credit with any purchases as part of Epic Rewards. This is added only 14 days after a purchase, though, so chaining up those discounts requires a lengthy wait.

Epic Games arch rival Steam is expected to start its Winter Sale promo on December 21/22.
