'Epic' brand new Nottinghamshire estate where neighbours love where they live

Residents living on a brand new housing estate in Nottinghamshire say they love where they live, with one describing it as "epic". Hundreds of homes are being built at a development called Sherwood Gate off Papplewick Lane in Linby.

Bellway East Midlands is the developer building 237 properties, and has just been given the green light to build an additional 18, taking the total there up to 255. A new park will be built at the site too.

A total of 206 homes have been sold and 172 residents have already moved in, with work at the site expected to be completed by Summer 2024. According to the Bellway website, prices at the development range from £250,000 to £422,000.

Home on the site are a mix of three, four or five bedroom properties. And people that have already moved into their new home could not speak more highly about where they live.

Kim Leightley, 32, who lives on Askew Road, said: "It's epic around here, especially at Halloween and Christmas time, where all of the houses do something different with activities, like kids having to put their hand in a hidden hole of shaving foam to get sweets. I've got two young children here, and it's so nice and lovely.

"It may sound like a cliché, but I've become really good friends with all my neighbours. My parents live in Hucknall and living here means we can be close to our family.

"There are no real demanding characters around here. I've [been] quite picky with the schools, and some in the immediate area are not that great, but there are some better ones a little further away.

"I moved over from South Africa and made Nottingham a permanent home after pretty well pointing at a map and finding it was in the centre of the UK. I moved here in December 2020, but when my kids reach secondary school age, I might look again.

"We've got a street party planned for the Jubilee weekend. There is a real community feel around here."

Alex Johnson, 34, who also lives on Askew Road and works in the leisure industry, said: "It's lovely, we have the best neighbours ever here. We moved here in October 2020 to start a family and we needed somewhere much bigger, my other half is pregnant and her due date is Wednesday, May 25.

"We looked at various new builds, but this stood out to us. The house is real quality, it ticked all the boxes we were looking for.

"Everyone around here is really helpful and friendly, if anyone has ever got any issues, neighbours come and help sort them out, everyone respects each other. Others have had some issues with houses, but the developers have been getting on top of them, that happens with new housing sometimes.

"There are families all around here, and the Papplewick Trail also appealed to us as we love to go for walks. There are further plans for a little park, and I think that would really help.

"There are a decent amount of schools around here, and we've got a decent sized garden. I thought the price for our house was a lot, but it matches other houses in the area.

"The only bad thing is that we pay £250 per month for council tax here. That's a lot, especially with everything going up."

Mike Williamson, 47, who lives on Chadburn Road and works for McCane Construction, said: "I've been here since February, and it's really nice and quiet here. I had kids going up from school to school, and being in Hucknall before, this is ideal as it's still in the catchment area we need.

"The neighbours are great too, you can't ask for better. Everyone looks out for each other and whenever I'm out washing the car, someone walks by and says hello - I was at my previous address for eight years and I know more people here than I did there.

"The only thing is that I have to wash my car quite regularly, just because of the dust from construction work still going on. But that will stop soon."
