The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has collaborated with Elon Musk's cost-cutting department to retract environmental grants issued by the previous Democratic administration. The EPA, along with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a department established by President Donald Trump to reduce federal spending, disclosed that the Biden administration had allocated $77.1 million in 'environmental justice' grants to 20 recipients. As part of its efforts to eliminate government 'waste,' DOGE announced the cancellation of $67.4 million in unspent funds, a move confirmed by the EPA.
One of the recipients affected by this decision is the San Diego State University Foundation, which was set to lose $4.2 million in funding aimed at promoting 'environmental justice' in tribal, indigenous, and Pacific Island communities. Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., criticized the cost-cutting measure, equating 'Biden's EPA' to 'Embezzling Public Assets' on social media.
The EPA has been reclaiming millions in environmental grants issued during the Biden administration, uncovering that only eight entities were authorized to distribute $20 billion of taxpayer funds 'at their discretion.' The agency discovered that $2 billion was allocated to a climate group associated with prominent Democrat Stacey Abrams, which the administration deemed a 'scheme' of 'wasteful' spending.
The grant was awarded to Power Forward Communities, a nonprofit linked to Abrams, with a focus on reducing the climate impact by funding the replacement of household appliances in lower-income communities with eco-friendly alternatives.
