Enzo Maresca teases Pedo Neto debut as Chelsea prepare to face Man City

New Chelsea signing Pedro Neto is in line to make his debut this weekend, manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed.

The Portugal star completed a surprise £54million move to the Blues last week, signing a seven-year contract before being unveiled to supporters ahead of the 1-1 draw with Inter Milan on Sunday.

Maresca wasted no time hailing Neto's versatility upon his arrival and, speaking on Friday, confirmed the winger is ready for his first minutes in a Chelsea shirt.

Asked about Neto, Maresca said: "Pedro, his physical condition is good. He has only been here two or three days.

“We will see if [he can play] from the start or from the bench.”

The only absentee for Sunday’s visit of Manchester City is captain Reece James, who has been struck down by another injury during the off-season.

The defender told reporters last week that the injury was “not bad”, but Maresca was less sure on the extent of the damage.

Asked if James had suffered another hamstring injury, Maresca replied: “I don't know."
