Enzo Maresca in demand as next Celtic manager target eyed by fallen Premier League giants

Celtic could have a fight on their hands to land Enzo Maresca with the Manchester City coach also a target for Leicester.

The Hoops are on the hunt for Ange Postecoglou’s replacement after the Aussie upped sticks to join Tottenham on a four-year deal. Record Sport exclusively revealed Maresca was back on Celtic’s radar after initially being considered before Postecoglou was given the nod after a failed pursuit of Eddie Howe two years ago. The champions are likely to approach City to speak to Maresca, but may not be the only ones.

The Telegraph reports the Foxes are eyeing Maresca for their top job after Dean Smith failed to keep them in the Premier League. He was a temporary successor to Brendan Rodgers, who is also a potential Celtic candidate despite his acrimonious exit in 2019 to join the east Midlands club in the midst of the Hoops’ ultimately doomed 10-In-A-Row run.

Smith is still in talks with Leicester about staying longer term, while ex-Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has been thrown into the mix. Scott Parker and Kieran McKenna have also been mentioned.

The clamour for Maresca isn’t limited to Celtic and Leicester, however. It’s also claimed he rebuffed an approach from Southampton, who were relegated to the Championship alongside Leicester.
