Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea: Sergio Aguero believes big money transfer is only ‘a short time away’

Sergio Aguero has tipped Enzo Fernandez for an imminent move to the Premier League.

The Argentina midfielder is Chelsea’s leading target before the end of the window and the Blues are prepared to send a delegation to Lisbon for talks with Benfica.

Chelsea have been interested in the 22-year-old throughout the January window but saw initial talks stall when the Portuguese giants demanded the midfielder’s £105m release clause up-front.

The prospect of a move, however, is again a possibility and Fernandez is now Chelsea’s sole priority during what remains on the window after cooling interest in Moises Caicedo and Amadou Onana.

Fernandez, who won the Young Player of the Tournament Award during Argentina’s victorious World Cup campaign, is already thought to have agreed personal terms with the Blues.

Aguero was part of the Argentine set-up in Qatar and believes his compatriot is all but certain to leave Benfica.

Speaking to Stake, the former Manchester City striker said: “From my understanding, it’ll be a short time until he arrives either to the Premier League or La Liga.

“The thing is, the World Cup can be a great display window. You can really tell who are the players that make a difference, and there’s obviously a boost to the champions too. Maybe we’ll see Enzo Fernandez in the Premier League soon.

“The World Cup’s best young player award is nothing to scoff at.”
