Entitled Lady Crawls Under UPS Driver’s Truck In Order To Get Her Parcel Delivered Right To Her Door

On giant online marketplaces like Amazon, you can buy literally anything – even an entire prefab house, and everything will be delivered directly to your door. Well, depending on what you mean by that. Delivery service employees – such as UPS – have a special, well-established procedure for delivering packages – but sometimes misunderstandings occur between them and customers.

Some time ago we told you a story about a woman who literally lay down under the wheels of a delivery truck, dissatisfied with the driver’s refusal to bring the fridge she purchased into her house. Perhaps the heroine of our story today also heard about this tale – because she did exactly the same thing.

“Hey, can you send him? I’m under his truck”

“70YO: Yes he is. And I will not…
UPS Driver: I’m trying to leave and she’s under my truck.
70YO: I’m laying under his truck and I will not let him leave.
UPS Driver: Ma’am, that’s not safe. Somebody can hit you. You need to get out under there.
70YO: Well, I’m in front of the gate.
UPS Driver: Supervisor, I won’t leave, but get out of there. You’re gonna get hurt.
Dispatcher: Yes it is.
70YO: No, I’m laying underneath his UPS truck because he will not put it on a cart. Or even let me help him put it on a cart. He wants to leave it on the street in front of my gate. When that is not what I said, Give me my stuff. And he’s not. He says I have to arrange a different way to have it delivered. And Amazon said it would be delivered to my door. So I’m not going to let him leave until he gets my stuff, so I’m laying under his truck.”

“Ma’am, get out of there. I’m not gonna leave. That’s for your own sake. You’re gonna get hurt”

“70YO: I’m not gonna get hurt layin’ here, honey. I’m 70 years old.
UPS Driver: A car can pass by and hit you.
70YO: Oh well! Nope, no weapons. Just a 70-year-old body, honey.
UPS Driver: She’s climbing on the truck.
70YO: I am not, I’m laying on the street underneath it.
UPS Driver: Weren’t you on the truck?
70YO: I put my foot on it so I could talk to you in your window.
UPS Driver: No, you were climbing on it.
Dispatcher: What color is the truck?
70YO: It’s brown. It’s a UPS truck.  Can I get a license plate number?
UPS Driver: Just climb now, ma’am, I’m not gonna leave.
70YO: Well, you better not, because the cops are on their way.
UPS Driver: The cops are not gonna say nothing.
70YO: All you had to do was do the right thing, sir.”

The woman threw herself under the truck and the driver, together with the dispatcher over the phone, were coaxing her to get out

No, we don’t know exactly what this Amazon customer ordered, but from her phone conversation (probably with the dispatcher) we can learn that she is 70 years old, that she expected the package to be delivered right to her door – and the driver left the parcel near her gate. And the buyer was extremely dissatisfied with this very fact.

Apparently, the video that we can watch here was filmed by the driver who was trying to leave for the next delivery location, and the outraged client first tried to climb onto his truck, and then completely threw herself under the wheels, where she lay down, while simultaneously communicating on the phone.

To the driver’s credit, he was as patient and polite as possible (even taking into account the fact that delay for any UPS courier is fraught with significant problems). The man repeatedly pleaded with the angry lady to get out from under his truck, claiming that being under it was dangerous for her life – after all, she could be hit by another car passing by.

Well, the lady eventually followed this advice – although it’s not clear who convinced her: the driver, who repeated several times that she should have chosen a different delivery method, or the interlocutor on the phone. Be that as it may, this driver now has a unique reason to write an explanatory note to his higher-ups. Something like “I was late because of a woman lying under my truck…” All that remains is for the boss to believe it…

In fact, and this is repeatedly emphasized in the media, numerous drivers who deliver packages from Amazon are not direct employees of the Internet giant. These are employees of subcontractor companies that enter into separate contracts with Amazon. And, accordingly, acting due to their own internal instructions. So it’s not at all surprising that there was a misunderstanding between the client and the driver.

Anyway, work is underway to solve these (and many other) problems. For example, back in early 2024, Senator Chris Murphy made a statement: “These drivers work for a myriad of independent companies all across the country, and Amazon contracts with those companies in order to get these packages delivered. Even though they look like Amazon employees, they are not Amazon employees.” ‘Nuff said.

Many commenters on the original video were mostly on the side of the driver and dispatcher, making numerous jokes about the customer’s outrage. “I can hear the eye roll from dispatch over the phone,” one of the commenters wrote. “The sigh from the driver, poor fella,” one of the author’s colleagues added.

By the way, some folks in the comments also noted that this story is worth taking into account in case of being late for work. “This is my next excuse for a call out at work. I won’t be in today ’cause I’m stuck under a UPS truck!” someone wittily wrote. And what do you, our dear readers, think about this situation?

People in the comments mostly sided with the driver, exercising wit over the angry client as well
